Last week Matt Cutts, head of the web spam team at Google, gave WebproNews an interview in which he said that in 2010 Google will likely use your page load speed as a factor for ranking.

Google obviously thinks that things should be fast. Pages should load fast, it’s the Internet after all…zip…zooom…..WHEEEE!!

Everyone’s talking about this….but I’m going to go on record as the first person to state that this is arbitrary and stupid. Really stupid.

How fast a page loads is relevant? Come on.

Are you saying that if I cured cancer, Google wouldn’t find it relevant if I put my cure on a web page that loaded slowly? Nonsense.

Sites generally load fast enough. Don’t you find?

I can’t ever remember a time when a site didn’t load fast enough unless my internet connection had temporarily gone wonky.

This seems sort of like Google trying to innovate for innovations sake. There are perfectly legitimate reasons for a site to load slowly, who is Google to say otherwise.

Oh, Google is…well Google. Ok, I guess they can do what they want. I still think it’s stupid.

So what’s the rationale? Google aims to show relevant sites. Always have, always will. That’s their bread and butter. Why do I go to Google to run a search? Because they give me relevant results.

Well…Google thinks that maybe if a site loads slow, people won’t like it so much. And Google wants to show sites that people will like (ie be relevant). So…if your site is faster, you should “maybe get a little bonus for that”….

Whatever.

Google recently launched a site to help you make your site faster and analyze things etc. Check it out here.

It’s Monday morning, it’s cold, it’s raining, one of my SEO experiments isn’t going well…I’M HAVING A BAD DAY…maybe that’s all this is…my reaction on a bad day…maybe it’s like Google says, a great thing to have a fast site….whoppeeee….After all, they are Google, and I’m just an seoFool!

What do you think? Are you with me? Is this stupid? Comment Below…

shrinking files might cuase problems and 404 errors so you still don’t accieve what you want. Google is becoming way to demanding!
