Google Announces new “Fetch as Googlebot” Webmaster Tool

SEO News

Yesterday Google announced the addition of two new features in their Webmaster Tools suite. (you ARE using the free Google Webmaster Tools aren’t you?!)

The two new features are the “Malware Details” and the “Fetch as Googlebot” tools.

Both are pretty cool, but we’re interested in SEO so I’m going to focus on the Fetch as Googlebot tool because it’s pretty awesome. It shows you exactly what Google see’s when it scans your web site.

Google already has tools that allow you to get HTML and keyword suggestions, but being able to see in real time what the Googlebot see’s is pretty nice.

To use this new tool, just log into your free Google Webmaster Account, click on the link to whichever website you want to check (having previously added your web site to your Google Webmaster Account), then click on the “LABS” link on the left hand side of the screen, then click on the “Fetch as Googlebot” link.

A little clock will appear while Google fetches your web site….then a “Success” link appear that you click on to see the results.

That’s all there is to it! Quick, easy, useful…FREE!

You can read more about each of these new tools
